As a dad of two young, school-age children who’s responsible for their daily drop off and pick up (most of the time) at two different schools, I not only have a say in this matter, I’m pretty much on point when I say keep your sick children home!

This article is being written as I am home with my oldest child who, for the third day in a row, has a fever. The same fever over 80% of her 1st grade class has. I understand these things happen sometimes, no one is at fault. Fine. I also know, since I’ve seen with my own disgusted eyes, parents dragging their obviously sick children with their runny noses and incessant coughs and sneezes, right into the school as if nothing was wrong. I’m not cool with this and you shouldn’t be either.

I know what some of you are thinking here so let’s get into it. Here’s where the work argument always comes into play. Unless someone is literally going to die because you won’t be at your job that day, take the day off and take care of your child. Be responsible and don’t risk the health of all of the other children in that school. When you became a parent, you agreed to sacrifice…a lot! This includes your job. The company won’t fold during the eight hours you’re not there and if it does, you have a shitty job anyway and need to look for…
