It's funny you bring this up because it's absolutely a thing. Sometimes I hesitate telling people I had Bleach before I had Nevermind for this very reason. I was just lucky because a friend who always knew every underground band used to make mix tapes for me and "About a Girl" was on one of the tapes he gave me. Luck and timing can mean everything.
