Paul McCartney has always stated that the melody for "Yesterday" came to him in a dream.

… it worked! It was the exact chord progression in my dream. I’m amazed that this happened to me and I wonder how many other musicians dream up chord progressions in their sleep. I’d love to hear and read more stories about them.
