It’s a good question because with every economic change, regardless of industry, there’s a trickle down that winds up hurting the little guy the most. Even companies like SoundCloud and Bandcamp are struggling due to independent artists essentially being out of work. Anything they can do to promote indie music and incentivize artists to release new music is helpful but it’s definitely not enough.
I really think the future of music lies in subscription based models like Patreon but with much bigger payouts to the artists directly. All of the current music companies need to find a way to pay artists bigger percentages and with fewer middle men. It’s not an easy task at all.
