When Will We Finally Value Our Kids Over Competition?
Another sports related sexual predator scandal proves we care more about winning than loving our children
When it comes to athletics, there’s a long and disturbing history of child sexual abuse entrenched within our society. Unfortunately, we can now add another chapter.
Former USA Olympic Gymnastics coach, John Geddert, was found dead by way of suicide on February 25th, 2021. His death came hours after dozens of charges against him, from human trafficking, forced labor, and sexual misconduct, among others, were announced. Geddert was 63.
Geddert was an associate and criminal cohort of disgraced and jailed, former USA Gymnastics national team physician, Larry Nassar, who in 2017 was convicted of dozens of cases of sexual abuse.
Nassar, a serial rapist and sex offender, is currently serving a several hundred-year sentence after pleading guilty to such charges as child pornography and the sexual assault of minors. This is who Geddert chose to work with, and protect when he lied about knowing what Nassar was doing.
Both of these animals got what they deserved but that is of little solace to their hundreds of victims.
